My snap of Mt Cook, some 3,754 metres above sea level (or 12, 349 ft), was taken from the shoreline of Lake Pukaki. It's rare for Mt Cook to be cloud-free, so I was chuffed to see it reflected in the lake, which was like a mill pond, on the way home after a two week fishing trip with a late buddy of mine. Eilean Donan Castle. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932.

A photo of me on my preferred method of transport at the top of a large hill in the Borders en route to St Mary's loch. It is a 50 mile round trip from Peebles where we parked the car. The photo is a bit of a cheat because I had only just gone on the bike having discovered that I was no longer fit enough to cycle up the hill in a oner.
